#wholenovember update

20 Nov

I said I would update you on how whole november is going…

I’ve hummed and hawed over even writing this. because I’m embarrassed to say I have utterly failed at whole november. I have no idea what is going on with me at the moment but I’m in a funk that I would love to shake out of. I’m praying it happens quickly. That said I’m just taking it day by day.

In the mean time I’m clinging to these truths.

just want to be real with y’all…sometimes you’ve just got to abandon a plan…no matter how good…and focus on other things.

starting fresh #wholenovember

1 Nov

what just happened?

Life’s been a little nutso lately and I’m struggling to figure out where the last 6 months have gone.

I resigned from my job
I turned 30
I spent more time out of town then I did in town this summer
I hit my ‘goal’ weight.
I had surgery
I started working part time while finishing working full time
I got a new full time job at a new church
I’m leaving my beloved church (this Sunday is my last Sunday there) to go work at said new church

the list could go on and on.

With all this craziness let’s just say my eating habits have gotten all out of whack. Learning how to live and be after losing a significant amount of weight is soooo much harder than actually losing the weight. People told me this but I don’t think I believed them. Well I do now!

I’ve also noticed some less than desirable side effects (one is being played out right now…insomnia…yuck) and habits pop up because of all this that I’d like to see go away.

Basically…I need to

So it’s November 1. I’m starting fresh. Getting clean. Going whole. I’m calling this #wholenovember .

I’m basing it off of the whole 30 diet but altering it some to make it non dairy vegetarian.

All I will eat is vegetables, fruits, lentils, chickpeas, some eggs and oats. nuts, seeds and other gluten free grains will be very limited. All of these things need to be in their whole forms. nothing processed and as plant based as I can get.

I am not going to weigh my self or track anything but my food for the entire month. This isn’t about losing weight. It’s about getting back on track.

I am under no illusion that this is going to be easy. Especially with the holidays around the corner…but I have to do something. I need to get back in the mind set of why I started this whole journey in the first place…to be healthy.

I’m sure I’ll be posting pics along the way of the journey on Instagram etc. so you can find those there. I’ll also try and give small status updates here on the blog too.

Do you need a fresh start? Feel free to join me in this journey too! Things like this are always more fun with friends. 😉 Just use the hashtag #wholenovember on your fav social media outlet so we can track with each other.

Y’all have been so encouraging to me on this journey thus far. Thanks in advance for continuing that.

Here’s to #wholenovember !

BTDubs. I’m going to start an Instagram series called #30daysofthankfulness where I attempt to post a pic a day of something I am thankful for. Join me, won’t you?

30 Days of Thankfulness – Nov 22-30

30 Nov

Well…I was off giving thanks with my family in North Carolina and I completely forgot to keep posting what I’m thankful for here! Goodness – Hope you all had a wonderful thanksgiving…And if you don’t celebrate thanksgiving where you are…Hope your November 24th was particularly lovely.

Purple tights! – Am I allowed to be thankful for tights? Oh well! I have this one pair of purple tights that I love to wear and i just feel snazzy in them!

Days off – It’s nice to take a day off every now and then isn’t it. To get to sleep in, make a big breakfast and not have to rush through the morning to get anywhere.

My Mom & Dad – Thanksgiving day marked my parents 33th anniversary. I can’t tell you how many people tell me how awesome my parents are and I have to agree with them. I can’t fathom being together with someone for 33 years but they have done it with grace. It’s fun to know they are just as in love as when they got married. Love them both so much! You’ve been stuck with me for 28 years…thanks for putting up with all my shenanigans!

My Sister – I don’t say it enough but I’m so thankful for my sister. She puts up with a lot of my crap on a daily basis…a lot of which she shouldn’t have to. She’s given me so much and I’m so thankful for her.

City Living – I love living in a big city. Traffic and all there something to be said for the hustle and bustle…It always feels alive! *Someone needs to remind me of this next time I’m driving to church during rush hour*

The Season of Advent – I love the start of the Advent Season. Filled with anticipation as we look towards the birth of our Savior! It’s may favorite part of the liturgical calendar.

My boss – I have an awesome boss! I don’t get to see him often as he lives in St. Louis but when I do (which is more often than not in a foreign country!) I always leave encouraged in my life and ministry. I’m so thankful he asked me to be part of this ministry.

Being busy – Yup! I’m thankful for the busyness of my life. I was sitting at my desk earlier and lamenting the fact that I was going to have to miss hanging out with some of my friends from church because I was going to be on my GYFM team retreat this weekend. But then I started thinking…I am going to be hanging out with some of my best friends at the retreat! Why am I sad!? I am so blessed with good friends at church, good friends at work and am awesome team of people that I call friends…all whom I want to spend time with! How’s a girl to choose!? 😉 For someone whose struggled with finding community in the past all this community I have now is wonderful! I’m so thankful for it!

Oopsie!  Took a little break! Jumping back on the wagon.

My Church – I love my church and am so thankful for the community that I have there.

Weekends – I think it’s safe to say that most everyone loves them some weekends. Whether you have a super crazy busy weekend (like mine was last weekend) or a weekend full of rest and relaxation it’s always so nice to get to the end of a week and rest.

My creative friends – I have some pretty creative friends! From artists to photographers to musicians to super crafty my friends amaze me every day at what they can do.  *Shameless Plug Ahead* Here’s some links to their sites if you are curious.

The New Empires (drummer Steph Hughes)The Well Reds (Lead Singer/Guitarist Jeremy Ezell) – Bobbi Jo Brooks Photography – Kate’s CornerRebekah’s Designs – All Things Simple PhotographyEd Kirkpatrick Photography (my Uncle!)

I’m sure there are more but this is who I can think of at the moment.

Dinner Parties that end in arm wrestling! – Yup!  You read that right.  I had dinner with some friends last night and it was a lovely occasion that ended in arm wrestling and finger fencing. I laughed so hard! It was awesome and I’m so thankful for friends who can cook so well but who also will be goofy.  Love it!

Shopping Buddies – I usually don’t like shopping for clothes with other people (other than my sister) but I’m very thankful for my good friend Shannon…I think I’ve found my shopping buddy! She’s honest with out being mean, is very fashionable and pushes me to try on things I would never try on by myself!  Thanks Shannon!!!

Grace – Taking a bit of a serious turn here. I’m so thankful for Lord’s grace in my life when I don’t deserve it. His tender mercy that guides me through life. I’m not sure why but I’ve been very aware of that lately. His love is overwhelming and I am so undeserving.

30 Days of Thankfulness – Nov 15

15 Nov

FaceTime & Technology – I’m a tech nerd and proud of it! But tonight technology played a vital part in my job. I had a situation I really needed to talk to my boss about. But my boss was in Japan. Thanks to Face Time I was able to video chat with him like he was in the room and we got the situation all sorted out. And we got to catch up on how things were going in Japan. It was awesome and made my job so much easier.

30 Days of Thankfulness – Nov 12-14

14 Nov

Movies – This may seem a little trivial but if you know me at all you know I love a good movie.  I especially love when a movie I loved in the theaters comes out on DVD and you can watch it over and over and over again. I’m that person. I have no problem watching a movie dozens of times. The latest…Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2!

Worship Team  – I love singing and playing on the worship team at my church. And I’m so thankful for getting the opportunity to be a part of it. It’s awesome to get to to play drums and worship the Lord at the same time! BTW our worship director has his own band and they are awesome!

My small group – I’m so so thankful for my church and the people in it.  But I’m especially thankful for my small group. I love those ladies. They are a constant source of encouragement in my life and are always pointing me back to the Lord. Love y’all!

30 Days of Thankfulness – Nov 11

11 Nov

ScottI’m thankful for my cousin Scott. It’s his birthday today. He would have been 31. It seems fitting that Scott’s Birthday is on Veterans day as he is the Veteran I always remember because he died serving our country. I’m so thankful for him & the other men in my life that served our country so we could live & worship freely.

30 Days of Thankfulness – Nov 10

10 Nov

Being in the same city as my Mom & Dad – When my parents moved back to Atlanta last year it marked the first time since I went to college in 2001 that we lived in the same city. I am so thankful that I live so close to them now.  It’s so fun to just pop over for a visit or for them to come over to our place. It’s just so nice to have them close by.  It’s also very very nice when, say, you have a dead car battery, to be able to call up your Dad to come jump your car off. (Thanks Daddy!) As an MK I know how rare it is to live in the same place as your parents as an adult so I’m soaking this time up.

30 Days of Thankfulness – Nov 9

9 Nov

Music!-I love being in my car and one of my favorite songs comes on and all of a sudden my steering wheel turns into drums and I’m just singing at the top of my lungs! Today it was Sara Grove’s “When the Saints” – love that song!

30 Days of Thankfulness – Nov 1-8

8 Nov

So I’ve noticed on the good ole facebook people taking time each day to mention one thing they are thankful for. I love this idea. I’m a little late on the bandwagon and probably a little long-winded too so I’m going to use the ole blog as a vehicle for expressing my thankfulness to the masses.  Since it’s the 8th of November I’ll do a catch up post today then starting tomorrow there will be one a day (or that’s the idea anyways)

Ready!? GO!

Nov 1. The opportunity to do what I do – On November 1st I got to share with the office staff of MTW (the missions org. I work for) about the Area Retreat and all God did there.  It was so cool to get to stand in front of these folks who I work with everyday and share with them why I do what I do and how God is working in this ministry!

Nov 2. Trivia! – Most every wednesday I head over to Mo’s pizza with a group of friends and we battle it out with other teams for Trivia domination! (or $40 house cash for the winner) It’s such so much fun and I try not to miss it each week.

Nov 3. My Family – Last week we had an unexpected visit from my Aunt Buggy (or Judy for everyone else). It was fun to get to visit with her a bit while she was here and just made me so thankful for my whole family….who, for the most part, I really enjoy being around!   😉

Nov 4. Being goofy with friends – I love that all my friends have a good and healthy sense of humor. And last friday night was no exception. While my sister and I were being introduced to the movie/musical “Newsies” one of our friends felt the need to burst out in dance herself. It was amazing.

Nov 5. Road-trips with friends – I went up to Covenant College on Saturday to see one of out MK’s play soccer and hang out with some others and my friend Krista came with me! It was so much fun to escape the city for the day and go to Chattanooga and Lookout Mtn. Even better to get to go with a friend.

Nov 6. A day of rest – On Sunday I took a day of rest for myself. I stayed in my pajamas all day and rested…it was glorious.

Nov 7. My friends at work – I am so thankful that I get to go to work everyday and there are people here that I really like hanging out with…so much so that we can spend 26 hours on a plane together and still want to hang out the next day or we can see each other all week and then spend all day Saturday together! It’s just great.

Nov 8. A job where I get to be creative – I love that my job is so multifaceted. From admin to ministry to graphic design to designing youth and kid’s programs I love that I get to do so many things that I love to do!

I’d love to hear what you are thankful for…

See ya tomorrow!
