September/October Update

5 Oct

Encompassed with clouds of distress

“Encomapssed with clouds of distress” is a hymn by Augustus Toplady that we’ve been learning at my church recently. From the titile it sounds like such a wonderfully uplifting hymn doesn’t it? 😉 Well it really is!!! Take a look at the text…

Encompassed with clouds of distress, Just ready all hope to resign, I pant for the light of thy face; And fear it will never be mine. Disheartened with waiting so long, I sink at thy feet with my load: all-plaintive I pour out my song, And stretch forth my hands unto God.

Speak, Savior, sweet is thy voice; thy presence is fair to behold. Attend to my sorrows and cries, and groanings that cannot be told. Almighty to rescue thou art; thy grace is my shield and my tow’r. Come, succor* and gladden my heart, let this be the day of thy pow’r.

Harassed and cast down from thy sight, The tempter suggests with a roar, “the Lord has forsaken thee quite; Thy God will be gracious no more.” Yet, Lord, if thy love hath design’d, No covenant blessing for me, ah! tell me, how is it I find, Some sweetness in waiting for thee?

Shine, Lord, and my terrors shall cease. The blood of atonement apply; and lead me to Jesus for peace. The rock that is higher than I, almighty to rescue thou art. Thy grace is my shield and my tow’r; come, succor* and gladden my heart. Let this be the day of thy pow’r.

*What the heck does “succor” mean? I had to look it up when we first sang this in church! Dictionary.com says succor is a noun and it means a person or thing that gives help, relief, aid, etc.*

Isn’t the text of this hymn beautiful? I’ve been really encouraged by this song lately. To have someone so eloquently write how the Lord meets us exactly where we are with what we need is something that I need to be reminded of…I can so easily be Encompassed with clouds of distress and then stay there. I can so quickly listen to the temter who wants me to think the Lord has forsaken me. But as Toplady writes, there is often sweetness in waiting for the Lord. He uses these times to remind us of the Almighty one; who leads us to Jesus for peace. His grace is our shield and tower! Oh I pray that the Lord will continue to remind me that He is my sheild and my tower and that he uses even these times of waiting to teach me about himself.

A note on the frequency of my updates…Since I am in an intense time of building up my support team I thought I would change the frequency of my updates to Bi-Monthly instead of Monthly for the time being. My hope is that my updates will be more “meaty” since I’ll have 2 months of news instead of just one. And people always say “absence makes the heart grow fonder!” 😉 If you’d like to keep up with me on a more regular basis you can check out my facbook page (the link is below).

Support Raising – 50 @ 75!

————————————————————
I’m starting a campaign! No…I’m not running for president! I’m I setting out on a path towards being fully supported by June of 2013! As I work towards this goal I’m starting a campaign called “50@75”. If the Lord provided 50 new pledges at $75 a month I would be at 100%. Now this could be a new supporter, it could be a current supporter or church who increases their pledge or someone could take up two of those spots if they’d like. 😉 I trust the Lord is going to provide for my needed support in His timing but will you pray for my 50@75 campaign?

I so appreciate your prayers as I have conversations with individuals and churches about GYFM. It feels like such a slow process at times but I am encouraged by what the Lord is doing. It’s fun getting to meet with old friends and new people as I share about GYFM. Please keep praying that the Lord would raise up people to join the team!

If you would like to talk with me about GYFM or if you’ve been thinking and praying about joining the team now’s the time! Please get in touch with me so I can answer any questions you may have.

An update on me

You may be thinking…”Ruthanne, all of your updates are about you.” And yes…in a way you are correct. I do talk a lot about me but it’s usually me in relation to Global Youth & Family Ministries. So in this update I thought I would take some time to share with you all about some things that are going on with me personally. If you read my blog or are friends with me on facebook you may have heard some of this already but I wanted to share it with y’all anyways. Some of this is taken from a blog post I wrote a few weeks ago.

I’ve been on a journey over the past 10 months. It’s a journey I haven’t shared with many people. And something that I haven’t wanted to share here for one reason or another. But I’ve hit a milestone in that journey and I’m ready to share it. Not to shout from the roof-tops, “look what I did!” But to tell you of the Lord’s faithfulness, grace and tenacity for this girl.

Back in December I was tired. I was tired of the way I was physically. I knew I wasn’t taking care of my self and needed to change. I knew that if I didn’t do something about it then I would never do anything. So I decided that I was going to change. I honestly don’t know what switched in my brain but all of a sudden I was ready. Ready to change. Ready to push myself to places that had previously scared me to death.

I started working out 6-7 days a week. I wanted to quit so many times. But I kept at it. I can’t tell you how many times I wanted to cry on that eliptical…telling the Lord, “I can’t do it!” And every time I told Him that he said back, “I know you can’t, but I can.” And He gave me the strength to keep going. I also made some decisions about what I put in my body. I needed to start looking at food as a fuel for my body. Things that would make it run well. So I changed how and what I ate and started keeping track of everything I ate using an app on my phone.

There have been ups and downs in this journey. I’ve cried, I’ve laughed, I’ve done things I never thought I could do. So what’s this milestone? Ready? 😉

I’ve lost 110 pounds!!! PRAISE THE LORD!!!!!!!!!!

But, this journey isn’t over by any means. The Lord is opening up a lot of doors and burdening my heart with a lot of things through this journey. And it isn’t just my physical appearance that has changed. I’m working on writing down and chronicling all the internal stuff that goes on when you lose 110 pounds. There’s sooooo much…it’s a little overwhelming to think about that part.

I’m so thankful to the Lord for giving me the strength and willpower to keep on this journey. I honestly don’t know how I would have done it otherwise. I’m also SO SO thankful to my friends and family for continuing to support and encourage me along the way. You’ve been my cheerleaders! I didn’t know how important that was going to be to this process.

So why am I sharing this with you…my support team! Because I believe that you are part of this journey too. You are part of GYFM! Through your prayers and financial support – you are on my team! As a member of this ministry team and partnering with you – I want you to know that by God’s grace and help, I am now able to give more of my energy to this work. I feel so much better!!! I am so thankful for His faithfulness and help. Please pray that I am a good steward of my energy and time and continue in trusting God for His help in this journey.

Thank you so much for your prayers and financial support! The Lord is using them in mighty ways! So thankful for y’all!

In Him, Ruthanne
